Guide to IVF lab results:
The blastocyst grade is composed of three parts: A number (1-6) representing the developmental stage of the blastocyst, followed by two letters (A-D) indicating the quality of the blastocyst. The first letter grade is for the inner cell mass (ICM), which goes on to become the fetus. The second letter grade is for the (TE), which goes on to become the placenta. For example, a blastocyst graded as 5AB would be a fully expanded, hatching blastocyst with excellent quality ICM and good quality TC. Expansion grade is not associated with outcomes potential and only describes how large the cavity is. Cavitation refers to the cavity that forms inside the embryo when it starts developing into a blastocyst.

Expansion stage key:
1 - Early blastocyst with < 50% cavitation 4 - Fully expanded blastocyst
2 - Early blastocyst with > 50% cavitation 5 - Hatching blastocyst
3 - Blastocyst 6 - Fully hatched blastocyst
Letter grade key:
A - good to excellent B - average to good C - fair D - poor
